Big Boost for Community Hall

Community & Learning In Penhill (CLIP) is delighted to announce that it has been granted funding to pay two full time workers based at the John Moulton Hall. A Centre Manager and a Community Development Worker should be in post before the end of August. They should be able to help local people extend the range of activities at the Hall considerably and increase the number of community and voluntary groups across the whole estate.
The grant comes from the Fair Share Fund. This is administered by the Community Foundation for Wiltshire and Swindon. The Clivey Project has also been successful in getting funding. The final decision to support these two organisations was made at the Fair Share Local Area Panel on 15th June.
In March a ‘think tank’ session attended by thirty regular users of the John Moulton Hall resulted in many useful suggestions being made about ways of improving the premises and its activities. A small working group is now drawing up proposals for ways of making the library area more children-friendly and they hope to see changes brought in by September. There is talk of other improvements, including a buggy park and garden area.
During May, June and July CLIP staff and volunteers have been engaging in doorstep conversations with residents. They are building up a detailed picture of what Penhill people would like to see available locally. They are also finding out which of the things that are already going on really interest people. A report will be available in August. This will no doubt influence the work of the new Centre Manager and new Community Development Worker.
