Q. How to join the procession?
To be part of the 1 mile procession all you need to do is to fill in a form (as a group of friends; neighbours; club; organization…..) and bring it to John Moulton Hall or send it in by e-mail. The hard copy of the form is available at JMH, St. Peter’s Church, Seven Fields School or Swindon Academy. You can download it from www.thisispenhill.co.uk/Carnival
Q. Who is the Carnival for?
Carnival is for every one to enjoy. This event is to celebrate the achievements in Penhill. It is about being proud to be a Penhill resident. There are many activities and programmes happening all year round thanks to many local groups and organizations based in Penhill.
Q. Why are non-residents excluded?
There is no-one excluded from joining the entertainment during the day. On the other side, because this event is focusing on celebration of the Penhill Community this year, we limited the Carnival Procession participants to residents or people connected with Penhill in some way.
The original idea to have this event started as a Penhill Community Day with a ‘come-back’ Carnival parade. Since there are many residents still remembering the last Carnival that took place 16 years ago, people immediately referred to this event as ‘the Carnival’. The planning group wanted to make sure the goal – to organize a community event’ will be realistic and therefore made a decision to keep this year’s celebration more local, more Penhill focused.
If this year proves to be a success, we can aim for a much bigger event in the future.
Q. What to wear for presentations at the St. Peter’s Church?
All presenting groups will make their own decisions as to what to wear etc. For example: the ballet dancers were informed by their instructor Denise to wear pink ballet shoes, summer dress and will have hair in buns with pink hair bands.
Cheer-leaders from JMH will wear black-and-white T-shirts and leggings and trainers.
If unsure – check with the leader of your fitness/dance class.
Q. Who will take part in the Parade?
As of today (May) there are 8 entry forms submitted to JMH: Northern Lights Football Club; Bollywood Dreamers; Clivey; Groovy Movers; SA Choir; Sure Start; Arts and Social Club; African songs group; Penhill Players.
