Ethan Greenslade’s most difficult race came in heat nine when he trailed defending champion Jake Neighbour and Adam Phillips for the best part of two laps before the Manchester rider fell, bringing down Ethan Greenslade in the process.

With Adam Phillips disqualified, Ethan Greenslade again found himself out-trapped by Neighbour in the re-start. Working hard to get himself into a challenging position, Ethan dived inside Neighbour going into the bend. Jake Neighbour also from Swindon, looking very different from the ‘Goldilocks’ image of twelve month ago, was unable to fend off Ethan Greenslade’s strong challenge, crashed into the boards and limped home for two points, eventually good enough to secure the silver medal with 18 points.

Borough gets closerWe have all seen on the news that 2012 and beyond is going to be a challenging year for everyone because of the economic situation. This will also be true in Swindon. It is clear that, given the challenge of decreasing resources andincreasing demand, the Council‟s success can no longer depend on a traditional view of service delivery. It will depend on the involvement of service users and citizens.Our Locality approach is a clear commitment to shifting the way the Council works so that it is closer to local people. It is with great regret that I have decided to step down as Editor of Penhill News.

The decision was not an easy one to make, but due to my work commitments as an Assistant Head teacher my work load has increased and I am unable to give the time and the commitment that the Penhill News deserves. I have enjoyed being part of the Penhill News team since 2009 and I am very proud of Penhill . Running a Group

A workshop for people running a group/organisation or those who are thinking of setting up a new group will be held on Thurs, January 26^th at John Moulton Hall from 6pm. Some of the topics to be covered: difference between trustees and committee members; what is a charity; what is a constitution.

Planning the Carnival 2012

Thurs 19^th January 5pm at John Moulton Hall – Carnival meeting. Everyone with ideas and willing to be part of the preparation for this summer event is welcome. Locality, locality, locality

The new structures in the Borough start on 1^st January where the message will be ‘Locality’.  We hear that the Lead Officer for the North Central  ‘locality’’ (of which we are a part) has been named as Andy Reeves. The other wards in our ‘locality’ are Pinehurst, Gorsehill and Western ward.  Andy will be invited to the Penhill Forum Meetings. Look out for Swindon News for more on this subject.

Housing Ballot

We would like to remind everyone (as if you could have missed it!) that the Housing Ballot finishes at Noon on 30^th December and anything received after that time, will not count.

Let’s hope Penhill tenants were in the top voters.  The results will be known on 3^rd January and no doubt announcement will be made shortly after that, but we have been assured that every tenant will receive a letter too.

I recently attended the Carols Around the Tree sing- along with lots of adults and children of all ages at the United Reformed Church on Penhill Drive. It was a popular success , children from the uniform groups such as cubs and brownies sang along with their parents. M. Lane
